Fox News journalist John Roberts, in a shocking turn of events, blasted President Trump on Friday after the President tore into the media during an international press conference.
During a joint press conference Friday morning with British Prime Minister Theresa May, the President denounced CNN and NBC, attempting to discredit the reporters who work for the networks.
Trump became displeased with NBC reporter Kristen Welker after being questioned if his criticisms of U.S. allies could be aiding Russian President Vladimir Putin in his goal to isolate the nations.
“That’s such dishonest reporting,” Trump shot back in response. “Of course it happens to be NBC, which is possibly worse than CNN.”
Roberts issued a statement following the president’s comments, defending Welker’s reporting and labeling Trump’s remarks “unfair.”
“I know Kristen Welker of NBC,” Roberts said in a statement. “She is honest as the day is long. For the President to call her dishonest is unfair.”
In the same press conference, Trump also rejected a question from CNN reporter Jim Acosta, turning instead to give Roberts a question.
“Since you attacked CNN can I ask you a question?” Acosta interjected, referencing an earlier slight from the president.
“CNN is fake news. I don’t take questions from CNN,” Trump replied.
“Let’s go to a real network,” the president continued before fielding a question from Roberts.
Roberts later released a statement defending Welker and his decision to ask a question after being called on by Trump in response after facing criticism not supporting Acosta.
In the statement, Roberts explained that he had proceeded with his question when “it became clear that the president wasn’t going to entertain a question from Acosta.”
“As did my fellow colleagues in the press corps,” Roberts continued.
